5 Skin Care Resolutions To Make For 2023

With only a few days left in 2022, this is definitely the time to think of your New Year’s Resolutions. You may have several on your list that have to do with better health practices. However, there are a few that should be added that pay particular attention to your body’s largest organ – your skin!

Here are five skin care resolutions to make for 2023:

1. I will get more sleep.

Not only do you want to feel more refreshed and energized at the beginning of each day, you want to look like you haven’t aged beyond your years. Adequate sleep is necessary to keep your skin in tip-top shape. As Renée Rouleau explains on Refinery29.com, staying up late causes yawning which creates excess fluid that results in puffy eyes in the morning. But that’s not all.

“Lack of sleep can have a major impact on mental alertness, but when you are tired it’s also going to be reflected in your complexion,” she writes, “Nighttime is when the body is most metabolically active, ridding itself of toxins, which would otherwise wreak havoc on skin. In addition, sleeplessness compromises the body’s circulatory system and causes stagnant blood in the vessels under the eyes because they have not properly drained.”

2. I will take my makeup off before I go to bed.

Now that you plan on turning in a bit earlier than normal, it doesn’t give you any excuses for keeping your makeup on. In 2023, do away with the “I’ll worry about it in the morning” attitude. Keeping makeup on your face while you sleep is a great way to clog your pores. “You’ve known since middle school that makeup can mix with skin oils and dirt to cause zits,” reminds Elizabeth Siegel and Mary Rose Almasi on Allure.com.

3. I won’t neglect my neck.

Sure, we may endeavour to keep our faces cleaner than ever in 2023. But it’s time we stop forgetting to include our necks in all of that cleaning action. The neck area is known for displaying the signs of aging. That’s because we tend to forget it when it comes to cleaning, exfoliating and even applying sunscreen. Rouleau highly recommends that you pay your neck more attention.

“When applying daily moisturizer (one that includes SPF), be sure to extend it to both the front and sides of your neck,” she advises, “Reducing the amount of UV light your skin is exposed to daily will dramatically lessen future wrinkles. Also, be sure to exfoliate the neck two to three times a week with a mild facial scrub to keep it looking smooth. The neck is an extension of your face, so paying attention to this area will keep it looking youthful for years to come.”

4. I will wear sunscreen every day.

Don’t wait until the summer returns for you to break out your sunscreen. In 2023, make sunscreen an everyday thing. “Doctors have long advised wearing sunscreen daily (at least SPF 30) and reapplying it often,” report Siegel and Almasi, “The challenge is finding a cream that offers enough protection and doesn’t feel like a lead blanket. Look for ‘nongreasy’ or ‘sheer’ on the label.”

5. I will seek treatment for my skin conditions.
