What’s better than feeling young and energetic? Well, here’s the thing. We all have to age. When you look at it, we all want to live for as many years as possible, don’t we? Getting older, therefore, is certainly wonderful…depending on how we age, of course!
So what can we do to ward off the signs of aging?
Maintain a healthy diet.
Naturally, a strict attention to health and nutrition is a factor in aging gracefully. As Victoria Philpott reveals on Leaf.tv, eating healthy is top way to maintain a youthful look. She notes that the signs of aging – specifically sagging skin on the face and neck – occur for a number of reasons. A diet high in salt, sodas, alcohol and fried foods is one of them.
“For your skin to look firm and tight you need to include plenty of antioxidant-rich foods in your diet,” Philpott insists, “These will help eliminate free radicals and tighten the collagen in the skin. Grapes, avocados, olives, honey and passion fruit are all excellent choices. Citrus fruits, pears, watermelon and berries are also good.”
Make water your face’s friend.
We’re not just talking about washing your face. Drinking water is an important way to stay hydrated in order to make your skin look younger. Here’s yet another reminder to drink water regularly. It’s good for your overall health as well as the skin on your face.
“It’ll also help boost your mood and perspective,” says Kathryn Watson on Healthline.com, “If your skin is frequently and consistently deprived of proper hydration, you’ll notice that the signs of aging are more noticeable.”
Exercise your face.
Sounds a bit odd, doesn’t it? It should come as no surprise that, in addition to healthy eating and drinking water, exercise is a great way to ward off the signs of aging. However, to tighten the skin around your neck and on your face, you should put your face through some daily workouts. Philpott offers some helpful instructions.
“To get rid of a double chin, try tilting your head back with your mouth closed and look at the ceiling,” she explains, “Pretend you are chewing something and move your chin up and down 100 times a day. To tighten the skin around your neck, keep your mouth closed and suck in repeatedly. To exercise your cheeks for more distinguished cheekbones, suck them in and repeat 100 times a day.”
Always apply sunscreen when venturing outdoors.
We’re not sure there will be many blogs, posted this summer, that don’t advocate for sunscreen use. Although it should be worn all year long, sunscreen is a highly recommended during the summertime since the sun’s UV rays are at their strongest.
“Wearing sunscreen is a simple way you can be proactive about sagging skin on your face and neck,” insists Watson, “Wearing sunscreen every day will keep your skin from being damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. It also decreases your risk of skin cancer.”
